Judd Home

strawbale home in Frederick, MD

The theme for this modest 1,440 SF home was round! It's still designed with passive solar principles despite all the curves...and yes, strawbale walls for insulation. An adobe floor acts as a heat sink for warm winter sun and a masonry heater provides warmth on gray winter days. In summer, the lush living roof cools the roof and keeps it comfortable inside. All waste water is handled by a composting toilet and a simple (but effective) graywater system.
