Mike & Esther's Strawbale Addition

strawbale addition outside Washington, DC

This 1100 SF addition features super insulating strawbale walls to minimize energy use. Soil excavated for the foundation was used to build several cob mass walls to keep the space naturally cool and humidity-free in summer. Plus many of the materials use creative recycling...including a papercrete bathroom sink made with junk mail!

This was my first strawbale project and I still stay in touch with them.
